| I'm currently on a multi-destination trip. Somewhere along the way, I realized that each of the airports I've been landing in was, at some point in my life, my home airport.
HNL > SAN > SBP > DEN > HNL.
Different decades. Different versions of me. The same ritual: walking off a jet bridge and into a life.
Walking, snowboarding, surfing, sailing... Lately, mostly paddling. Different verbs, same(ish) body, moving through it all. Always changing. What a trip!
I'm currently in the mountains, where I lived for years. I caught a show at Red Rocks a few nights ago. The last time I was there, I was on tour, working. This time I was a guest. Lightning danced across the open sky as the amphitheatre full of strangers danced and sang into the night with Gregory Alan Isakov (indie-rock folk) and the Colorado Symphony. Tonight I'll see Sofi Tukker for some electronic house dance pop Brazilian magic. Completely opposite ends of the musical spectrum. Both full vibes. Love it all. Music in all its forms has been a through-line that's followed me into every chapter... no matter which airport I was flying out of.
Another not-as-obvious through-line I'm wading my way through: I spent years deep in regenerative farming. Obsessing over soil, how it affects our bodies, thinking in seasons, learning how systems heal themselves when you stop getting in the way. These days I'm doing the ocean version of that with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. Bringing in my events background, working on membership... Different element, same instinct. Give back to the land (or the water) that's holding us. Recognize our connection. Our very nature. (More on that below — we're celebrating 15 years of SCH this weekend!)
And that is the throughest line of them all. Our nature. Our health and well-being. And how it's allll tied together. How we be, flow, breathe, move, rest, play, and connect through life...
Speaking of currents... I just got back from Surf Ranch! If you recall, I broke my nose surfing a few months ago. Hadn't been on a wave since. I got out there, more or less got over my fear, and caught some waves anyway.
That's the whole thing, isn't it? Not staying still. Not being fearless either. Just getting good at finding your footing on something that won't hold still under you. Being present through all the little moments and chapters of our lives...
Which is exactly what we're working with at this month's workshop: Anchor + Ease.
Practices for staying grounded when everything around you is in motion... a season change, a move, a life you're mid-rewrite on. (Sound familiar?)
We'll get into the nervous system side of things. Then we'll move through it together. Somatic release, a full breathwork journey, the whole arc. |
